#TopTip campaign. The Banco de Portugal releases a brochure with tips on accessing digital banking products and services

Have you fallen for home banking, payment apps and online purchases? Innovation brings benefits, but we also need to be aware of the risks. The Banco de Portugal explains some precautions you should take to safely benefit from technological innovation.

On the Safer Internet Day, the Banco de Portugal has published a brochure containing the materials for the second phase of the #TopTip digital financial education campaign. Its aim is to inform the adult population of the security measures to be observed when accessing banking products and services through digital channels.

In the brochure “+ 5 tips for staying safer online”, the Banco de Portugal offers advice to the population on:

  • how to react to SMS, emails or phone calls requesting bank information;
  • the use of home banking and apps from banks and other payment service providers;
  • opening an account remotely;
  • online shopping;
  • online consumer credit.

The #TopTip campaign

The first phase of the #TopTip digital financial education campaign was launched by the Banco de Portugal in September 2018 aiming to raise awareness among young people to the online precautions to be taken in its mission to promote digital security and prevent financial fraud.

In November 2022, the Banco de Portugal began the second phase of the campaign with the publication of online security decoders and videos on its website, Bank Customer Website and social media, which are now intended for the adult population. The videos are interpreted in Portuguese sign language.
