In basic bank accounts, the charges levied for the provision of these services may not annually exceed 1% of the value of the social support index.
Maintenance or account management fees are associated with account ownership.
They are usually charged even when the account is not used (and has no movements) and regardless of the amount of the balance.
No fees can be charged to close bank accounts of consumers (private customers) and micro-enterprises.
For other types of customers, fees to close an account can only be charged if less than 12 months have elapsed since the account was opened. These closure fees should be limited to the respective costs incurred.
Institutions may charge other fees, for example related to the use of payment instruments.
Credit institutions may charge fees only if that possibility is provided for in the contract relating to the account.
Institutions may also charge expenses, which correspond to other charges borne by institutions that are required by third parties. Institutions may pass on these expenses to customers as they are related, in particular, to payments to conservatories, civil law notaries or those of a fiscal nature.
Credit institutions are required to advertise the maximum amount of fees and to indicate the main expenses in their price lists, available at all branches, places of public service, on websites of the credit institutions and on this website.
