For the seventh successive year, Banco de Portugal joined Global Money Week, a worldwide initiative to raise awareness among children and young people on the importance of money and savings. This year, Global Money Week ran from 25 to 31 March, with ‘Learn.Save.Earn.’ as the official slogan.
Banco de Portugal organised events in the districts of Leiria, Faro, Porto and Viseu and in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The main celebration took place at Banco de Portugal’s Porto Branch on 26 March with students from the vocational school Escola Profissional Vértice located in Paços de Ferreira. At the event, 53 secondary school students participated in activities on managing a family budget.
It also included a presentation of the work of Escola Profissional Vértice for the 7th Todos Contam competition, which recognises the best financial education projects from Portuguese schools. Escola Profissional Vértice was awarded an honourable mention in the competition for its play ‘A família moedas’ (‘The coin family’) and for its board game ‘Vértice Financeiro’ (‘Financial Apex’).
During Global Money Week, Banco de Portugal held financial training sessions in schools through its regional branches, in the districts of Leiria, Faro, Porto and Viseu and in the Autonomous Regions of the Azores. Students of different school years participated in the events and debated financial literacy themes such as planning a family budget, the importance of saving, using credit responsibly, being safe using digital channels and how the financial system works.
