Banco de Portugal maps digital financial literacy initiatives

The Banco de Portugal is developing a Strategy on Digital Financial Literacy in Portugal, aiming to empower citizens to make informed financial decisions and to protect themselves from the risks of the digitalisation of financial products and services.

This project is financed by the European Union and it is being conducted with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM).

The first step of this project consists of a mapping study of digital financial literacy, including a stocktaking survey to gather information on digital financial literacy initiatives in Portugal as well as the needs and challenges in this area.

If you are involved in digital financial literacy initiatives or you have a particular interest in this area, the Banco de Portugal would like you to complete the online survey available at this address. You will have to register (with name, surname, e-mail address) in order to complete the survey.

The survey has the following sections:

  • Respondent’s details;
  • The relevance of digital financial literacy initiatives in Portugal and the respondent’s knowledge;
  • The respondent’s past, current or planned financial education initiatives, including:
    • The provision of information, educational, and awareness-raising material (via traditional and/or digital channels) on the use of digital financial services;
    • The provision of financial education through digital tools (this can cover any topics, not just the use of digital financial services).

The questionnaire can be completed in whole or in part, in Portuguese or in English by 31 December 2021. The questionnaire is editable and you may save your partial response and complete it later.
